Before the famous Coach purse became a self-sufficient icon, and as well as a regular noun, Coach started out as a small business in New York, in the beginning of the forties. They mainly offered women’s purses, but a wide range of other accessories as well (including some for men), which spread from scarves and umbrellas to office furniture.
The company is famous for its high-class products. Although the items may be slightly pricy, they are well worth the effort. The finest leather is the material they use, and the metal accessories attached to purses and such are usually made of brass, which gains an extraordinary patina in time. The obtained vintage look is unique. In addition, these purses are notorious for lasting for an average of 15 years. Even now, some that they produced in the early seventies are still in good use.
Moreover, one thing that Coach is famous for is the paragraph in their policy concerning repair. For a small fee, any Coach purse can make the object of delivery to the company together with a note of the problem. In this manner, there is no doubt that the best professionals have repaired them. In addition, if this is not enough or takes too much time, the company provides professional cleaning products for leather products.
Bonnie Cashin, the designer that is responsible for the success Coach has had to this day, had initially involved in other projects and could not join the firm. They waited for her for two whole years, and when she did, things began looking up. She took the fashion world by storm with her designs of the Coach purse – after a whole era of dark, dull accessories, she began introducing bright colors that matched her fashion views
Everyone from client to factory worker was amazed at the highly functional character of the purses, which were a total surprise considering their great looks. She also insisted on using the best materials she could find, and her associate, Dorothy Liebes, the textile designer, contributed to success. They worked together in a way never seen before and the results were stunning.
She created a whole revolution by designing other smaller items that fitted inside and matched any Coach purse. They were special, smaller purses, made specifically for sunglasses, change, keys or make-up. From this point of view, she was definitely a trendsetter. In addition, she started using hardware for clothes – especially brass – a new tendency. Finally, she was the one that pioneered a new way of quickly and efficiently opening the bag. She was famous for thinking outside the box – namely, outside the boundaries of conservatory fashion – and this time, she had found her inspiration in the way she opened the top of her sports car.
Although luxury products, Coach purses are famous for being affordable even for those who are budget conscious. The policy of the firm – and the reason for their profit way beyond that of competing brands – was to invest in high-quality, but not astronomically expensive products, produced mainly through outsourcing, and in large numbers (in striking contrast with the limited edition policy of the competitors). In recent years, they have gone international, and the standards for a Coach purse are higher than ever.
