There are few secrets for your application when you want to get a job. It is truth that your interview and experiences are important to get a job or not but the critical step is your application. If you have a professional application then you should be sure they will contact you to setup an interview date. Because of this important step you have to decide between electronic application “E-Mail” and old good application Briefcase.
Many people think that the applications posted in e-mail are faster deleted than normal application by mail. It is easy to understand because the employers receive 20 Mail in his Mailbox everyday but maybe 300 e-mails in his electronic mailbox. If your application in your e-mail doesn’t have a good subject they would never open it. It is very important to put a good subject for your application if you are sending it per e-mail. It is very necessary to use Application in your e-mail’s subject.
You should know if your normal application per mail isn’t professional they will put it in to the paper recycle bin after while too. Maybe they didn’t throw it away immediately but you didn’t get any call or letter to make an appointment anyway. Either way you should make a perfect application.
What is important in your application?
-Try to sketch a logo for your own application and use it in all of your paperwork or in your electronic applications like PDF files. It is important because who is hiring people they can see you are smart enough for their company because you use your mind to show what you can. The eyes are the first contact of brain to the outside world. You know that and use it. You won’t lose anything.
-If you are sending your application per e-mail then you should send it to correct e-mail address. It is not right to send application to the contact e-mail address because when someone is hiring he setup a special e-mail address for that and put it in their web site. When you send your application to a wrong address you may wait forever to get an answer. If you don’t find the e-mail address call then and ask for the correct address. Sometimes you can catch some more information with your call what could help you to make a better application.
-If you call the hiring place try to talk with manager because you can get always the good and useful info from him and not from secretary. If you can use this useful information in your application you will impress them very positively.
-Try to write just the important information in 2 or maximum 3 sentences in your e-mail and point to your attachment.
-If you are using electronic application then try to use PDF files. I am saying it because the view of PDF files never change. When you use Microsoft Office files like Word Documents then the view of your files are not always the same. If they are using an older or newer version they will never see exactly how you made it on your desktop. PDF files are the secure way to send applications per e-mail.
-If you have some knowledge about HTML then you make a web site with your own domain name and use it for your application. You can point always to your web site to show your portfolio. It is never late to buy a domain name with your first and last name. Something like: www.fistname-lastname.com or www.fistname-lastname.name. You can do that by many domain name provider like Godaddy or HostMonster.
-There is some software to make application like Resume Maker. I used Resume Maker and it is very helpful when you cannot work very well with Microsoft Office products. After you are down with your application you can transfer all your files into PDF files with Adobe Professional.
-Never, ever your attachment should be more than 2 MB. Because your e-mail doesn’t come through when you have a big file as an attachment.
-Use an e-mail address with your first and last name like fistname-lastname@domain.com
-Only one PDF file is enough for your all application. When you send many different files then they will be confused to find your all information.
-Application is like your interview. You should be organized and show them step by step how you would like it in your PDF files page by page.
After all it doesn’t matter if you use e-mail or good old paperwork for your application. It is only important to show everyone you are organized, professional and maybe good in multimedia.
