The most popular search engine on the internet “Google” has presented its new email system “Wave” as a new invention on Thursday 28. May 2009. If someone else than Lars Rasmussen, the inventor of Google-Maps, would present Wave on that day, I would say, Google was joking.

Chat, email, and work together on a text at the same time and live. These will be combined in only one application. We know that the email concept is almost half century old. So, it was Google´s ambitious goal to create a new type of communication and online collaboration. Google promises that Wave will be available for everyone in the near future.
How does Google wave?
It was especially very important for the Google Wave´s developers to create an application that it is easy to use and does not raise any questions. It will be combined in Gmail as a form of dialogue, so it is called Wave. However, it is not everything, because Google argue that Google Wave will revolutionize the conventional email.
So at any time, a new user can be added into the conversation. In the conventional email, an email has to be forwarded to the third person, without being active in the live conversation. Google Wave shows the entire conversation, that the added person can see and read the entire email from the beginning just like a small movie.
In classical email you quote a certain passage by copping it from the original email, but in Google Wave, you can just add your comment directly after the original paragraph just where it is appropriate. Then all conversation members can see the changes immediately. Also you can specify that the input appears live in the system. That means that each individual letter during typing will immediately appear in the wave.
So Google wave can be used as chat system. According to the developers there are no technical limit the number of the debate, however, it is cluttered with more than 15 people.
It is not only the service is interesting, but its additional functions. You for example can bring your text file into the conversation that all members can work on that at the same time. You also can share your photos, videos, maps, and etc. with others at the same time.
The possibilities which this system provides are very large. So the websites and blogs can be embedded into the Google Wave and you can decide what can be for the public and what can´t. the changes are always immediately visible.
There is an important point by Google Wave; it is an open source project. Google Wave will be available for all developers, that they can embed their own application and create their own design.
Conclusion
The technology used for Google Wave is not something new and Google can´t argue that they invented email again. However, Google Wave can be good live communication software, just like forums, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, and etc.
