I am a jack of all trades. My mission in life has been helping others and stirring up drama where ever I go. My passion in life is my nephew; he gives me the strength to continue each day. His outlook on life is so pure and innocent untainted by life’s challenges
What a phenomenon! I had heard the rumblings of twilight from my young cousins and on the television but I was not about to jump on the tween bandwagon. Then my 40 year old best friend said she was reading them because her 13 year old daughter was, she would go on and on about how incredible they were, there are four books in the series, she said after she picked up the first one she could not put it down she instantly became addicted.

It took all of three pages and I was hooked I couldn’t believe what I was reading, it was so compelling it took over my every thought I ate breathed and slept Twilight I stayed up into the wee hours not wanting it to end and then waking early to pick up where I left off. Stephanie Meyer’s, the author, writing style is fluid and eloquent she creates a connection instantly to the characters even though they are vampires.. She took the old clichés about vampires and she created her own vegetarian style blood suckers. She created a leading man, vampire, who was chivalrous, caring, kind, thoughtful and gorgeous, not at all like the bad boy images that have been plaguing our tv’s and movies. It was a great feeling knowing that millions of teenage girls were reading these books and falling in love with a character that is decent and intriguing, hopefully helping them realize that they deserve to be treated with respect and love not just as objects.
I read the four very very long books in four days and when it was over I felt a tremendous let down, I craved more I wanted the story to never end. That is when I caught whiff of the Twilight movie coming out in just a few weeks; again I wasn’t up on the entire tween goings on. I felt like a teenager again desperately wanting to see the movie, hoping to fill the need that had been left after reading the last book. I found another friend who has a 16 year old and she was going to opening night with her daughter and her friends, I couldn’t resist. Every day became a countdown to the “big” day, we made plans to have a nice dinner beforehand what I wasn’t prepared for was standing in line for three hours just to get seats for the showing. We were surrounded by hundreds of tweens, their energy inspired me and made me feel nostalgic for my teenage years; I found myself screaming with them, talking non stop about the main character Edward and being completely overcome with Twilight jargon. Not until we were seated in the theatre did I take it all in and I realized that every one of these girls in this sold out theatre had read those four books, Yes Read four very long books. The vibe in the theatre was electric every time Edward would come on the screen everyone would scream or giggle, it was a tiny glimpse into what times of Elvis or the Beatles must have been. I am so glad I got caught up in the phenomenon it only renewed my hope in the future for teenagers as well as my own ideas of what romance really is.
