Microsoft has published its newest OS “Windows 7” for the public at the PDC Professional Developer Conference in Los Angeles. In my last article I talked about Windows 7 as a lipstick on a pig which is a major update of Windows Vista. In last few days I took Windows 7 under the loop to see if Microsoft holds the promises. So far, Windows 7 is an interesting release and creates hope which we can believe. There have not been many changes in the Windows 7 core but there have been a number of Optimizations. The developers were lucky and received the Milestone 3 build 6801 at PDC conference, which doesn’t include the new taskbar. Redmond promised they will publish the first major beta version in 2009 for everyone to test Windows 7.

Microsoft has created a new Windows development process and has focused on improving the foundation of the OS in last 2 years and this is one of the major reasons why Microsoft were able to increase aped and reliability in Windows 7. Fortunately, Microsoft learned from the past and worked on the Windows´s foundation to develop a better operation system for the future. Let go to the details to see what you find under hood of Windows 7.
I am a person who doesn´t have any problem if Windows starts in 15 seconds or longer than that. But Microsoft is struggling to make Windows 7 quicker at startup and shutdown. The beta version what I am testing, Windows 7 starts and shuts down faster than Windows Vista. The goal is starting in 15 seconds and I believe they can make it. My system starts in 19 seconds and it is 7 seconds faster than my Vista x64 edition.
Firefox is still the number one in internet browsers but Microsoft impresses with the new version Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft has improved the Java-engine in IE 8 and because of that Internet Explorer 8 reacts faster with more performance in web.
We know the chaos services in Windows Vista and Windows XP. Microsoft has learned from the past and has created a new system which is called “trigger-started services”. The services do load and start in Windows 7 when they are needed. It makes Windows 7 faster without touching anything in the system.
In addition, Microsoft is using the new Windows search 4.0 in Windows 7 which has been improved with more performance and it works with the grouping of search results.
In my next article “What is Under Hood of Windows 7? Part II and III”, I will talk about the Reliability, Battery Life, Hardware and software reliability, and the security in Windows 7.
