How Microsoft can make a better Windows 7

In the next few weeks we will hear a lot about Windows 7, the next generation of operation system from Microsoft. Microsoft has started its Professional Developers Conference (PDC) and the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) in LA (Los Angeles).

I talked about the failure of Windows Vista in my last Article. I also argued that Microsoft has to defend Windows Vista, because Windows 7 is created from Vistas core code. Steve Ballmer has said that it will be a mistake to believe that Microsoft has already moved past Windows Vista, at the Gartner Symposium on October 16.

Windows Vista has rejected by companies and businesses and has received a very bad image in media and public and Microsoft managers know that already. Windows operation system is still the number one, but Microsoft can´t defend its users with Windows XP forever. Every Windows user knows that Microsoft screwed up with Windows Vista, which is not compatible with most drivers and hardware, and make computers look old. I have heard many time from my users, that they won´t buy a new computer with Windows Vista if it should run slower than the older computer.

Now the most important question is what Microsoft should change to recover the original ideas of Windows Vista with a new Windows which is known as Windows 7.

Make Windows 7 Faster

Microsoft has started a new era with Windows Vista but the Microsoft developers did not build it to the end. Windows Vista came with a new surface which makes operation system significantly slower than Windows XP. But it was not the only wrong step to develop Windows Vista. Under Windows Vista run 50 million lines of code and even the most powerful CPUs can´t process these tasks. If Microsoft wants to stay on top of competition they have to create a Operation System with Windows 7 that runs much faster than Windows XP.

Create a Compatible Windows 7

In 85% installed Windows Vista, the User Access Control (UAC) is deactivated because it makes the whole process of using computer much difficult than before. People have searched 56 million times for the key phrases “how to deactivate User Access Control (UAC)” in the last 12 months in search engines. This number says that Microsoft has not created a safer operation system with Windows Vista. Microsoft has to learn from mistakes and get rid of UAC and create a better security system against third software providers.

Create only one version of Windows 7 with the same Price

I still can´t understand why Microsoft has created 5 different major versions of Windows Vista with different prices. I believe that Windows should be a solid operation system with only one client version that supports user’s needs and uses. A good friend of mine works by Microsoft and he told me few months ago a secret why Microsoft has created 5 different versions of Windows Vista. It began with an Idea from the marketing management. They proposed this dumb idea to make more money with Windows Vista. The secret proposed idea was, people will buy the cheaper version but after they use it they will need other services which are not supported in the lower versions. Then they have to upgrade and it will bring Microsoft more money than what Windows XP did. Unfortunately Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates have supported this idea and now we see that it was a failure. I hope that Windows 7 comes only with one version on the market because the overview and the support will work much easier than right now.

Create only one Major Developing Operation System

We have seen this system in many major software giants such as Adobe, Ahead, Symantec, Autodesk, GrapihSoft, and many other big software developers. The idea is simple and has worked in last 20 years. These major software companies have been developing the same main idea which they started with for 20 years. Microsoft has to create a major core code and develop and upgrade the same idea in a shorter time. You can´t start always with new ideas from the scratch over and over. If Microsoft creates a major OS with Windows 7 and starts to develop it for the future, I am sure, that any Windows user will switch to Mac OS X.

In conclusion, Microsoft has to think over and develop a major OS with Windows 7. With “Lipstick on a Pig” we will still have the same pig. I hope that Microsoft does not try to make Windows Vista´s surface beautiful than before and sell it as Windows 7. If really do that, it will be too late for Redmond to stay number one operation system in the world.
