Microsoft is losing the main context for Windows 7 and announced unimportant and childish new feature in the next generation of Windows operation system “Windows 7”.
Microsoft: Windows 7 will update your games automatically. I have now the full details how this feature works. Most of the features are already included in Windows Vista “Game Explorer”.
The Game Explorer from Windows 7 looks exactly the same what we have already in Windows Vista. With a right click on the icon of a game in the Game Explorer you can find a new section that says: “Scan for Update”.
The update function must be selected and activated by the user. First, the user must agree that the Game Explorer ever communicate with the outside world may be in order to obtain updates.
Besides the possibility for each game via menu item to consider updates, there is also an automatic update feature. Unfortunately, the user can´t decide in the setting when the automatic update should be started.
So there is no option to configure regular updates or upgrade in a specified period. You start testing the update by hand or the system will do that for you. After you agree with the update, your computer will send information to the servers from Microsoft regarding to your requests. Your hardware and software information will be saved as a code on Microsoft´s servers. Microsoft announced it is only for developing better games.
If the servers from Microsoft find new updates for your requested games, then Microsoft will forward your request to the respective games manufacturer to download your updates. You will receive a message from Microsoft in the Game Explorer that your update and request has been certified.
I personally don´t understand why Microsoft should announce this new feature which in my view isn´t important at all. I believe that every Windows user has had enough experiences with manually or automatically updating. It sound like Fox News, that they don´t have anything to report and they talk 2 hours about local weather that isn´t so important at all. Microsoft doesn´t have any other interesting features for Windows 7 to report and they publish this unimportant feature.

As a gamer, I think Microsoft has a good feature here... i never keep an eye out for updates until I'm about to play. I'd love embedded software that keeps me 100% up to date all the time. it is in Microsoft's best interests for computer gaming to be as seamless as consoles, and they've been a positive force in the industry (except for not writing dx10 for winxp).
but I agree it's odd they announce this and not much else.
