In the future and not far away, Intel and AMD will be at war with one another. AMD will sell cheaper CPUs with less performance and Intel will fight back.
Nahalem, Larrabee, Fusion and Deneb, do you still know them? The big CPU manufacturers offer too many different models of CPUs with a Codename-Galaxy that even an experienced Hardware-Hunter cannot find the right processor. I want to show you what kind of processors Intel and AMD offer right now in the market.
It is a big fight between two processor companies and they will keep fighting for better, faster and cheaper CPUs in the future. But what is behind the Intel´s Larrabee-Technology? What is Nahalem? Can AMD make a better market with Deneb-CPUs? I introduce you the most important evolutions and developments in CPU-World.
Intel: Top-CPUs now and in the future
Just like any other empire, Intel has its winning margin in the performance and in the circulation. Intel keeps AMD far behind with squadron of different CPU-Models.
Intel offers giants weapons with its Core 2 Extreme Processors. These CPUs offer high performance and they are easy to overclock. But you have to grip very deep in your valet. You can imagine you could by a complete PC and a flat screen with a super Intel CPU price. I want to show you the flagship of extreme processors of Intel.
The Lexus-Liner: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770
The QX9770 for the socket 775 is the fastest processor on the earth right now. It is 3.2 GHz and has two 6 MB Level-2-Cache. It is manufactured in a modern 45-nm and supports the fast Front Side Bus (FSB) of 400 MHz the maximum power-loss is up to 136 Watt. In 3DMark05 arrived with a very high number up to 10,307 points, and it cut with 14.6 seconds with CineBench. Both numbers are top calibers.
The flagship of Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 costs $1,790 USD. If you could call this expensive processor your own CPU you should have an excellent cooling system before you damage your extreme super fast CPU from Intel.
More power and performance with Intel Nahalem
The successor of the Core-Architecture is called Nahalem. Still Intel has not published enough information about Nahalem but we know that Nahalem has the same 45-nm-manufacture technology. Intel has integrated the Memory-Controller of Nahalem directly inside of the processor. Because of that Intel can save the performance-loss which evolves from FSB. Nahalem will support Hyper-Threading technology. Hyper-Threading help to process parallel running applications.
Intel Larrabee is ready for Graphic-Device competition
Intel has started a complete new field in processor era with Larrabee. With this technology Intel combines CPUs with Video-Chips. Till today Intel has not released any information about Larrabee but it is clear that the first generation of Larrabee will be a difficult competitor for Nvidia´s Geforce-GTX-200-Serie. In Larrabee technology supports up to 16 cores and 4 times Multithreading. Larrabee will be released in 2010.
AMD: Phenom and Fusion
The rebellion on AMD side tries to get points with Mind-Platforms. Spider is the magic word, which AMD and ATI combines together. From the horizon are coming the first beats against the empire Intel.
AMD has big plans. During the new CPUs Phenom-Series cannot get a good position against Intel´s processors but AMD can make points with Video-Devices of ATI. I want to show you the top models of AMD CPUs and the secrets plans of rebellion side.
Cheaper Interceptor Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition from AMD
The Phenom X4 9950 in the black edition is right now the top-model from AMD with 4 cores and it costs only $298 USD. It is manufactured with 2.6 GHz Clock-Rate, 512 KB Level-2-Cache and 2 MB Third-Level-Cache. It is the best processor for gamers. It is manufactured in 65-nm-technology, which creates more heat and more power-loss. The maximum power-loss is up to 140 Watt. The Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition works only with AM2 and AM2+ sockets.
AMD Fusion combines GPU and CPU
The most ambitious project of AMD is called Fusion. The goal is the combination of GPU and CPU. Right now, AMD is planning few Fusion models for Notebooks and desktops. The first series will be called Swift. During AMD is advertizing for its Notebook Fusion systems, the desktop users have to wait till 2010. There is other information about Fusion, that they will support DDR3 memories.
Smaller is better: AMD Deneb, Propus
Intel is busy with 45-nm-systems and AMD is developing the new AMD generation which will support DD3-Memories. These CPUs should bring high performance with high clock-rate. In 2009 we will be able to purchase this new generation of processors from AMD.
For the beginners the Phenom CPUs are the best decision, which support DD2-Memories. They have to different Cache-Levels, which are adapted for gamers.
In this article I talked about the top-models of Intel and AMD processors. If you are looking for high performance for your workstation with using Windows Vista x64 edition or Windows Server 2008 x64, then the best decision will be Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770, but you have to spend up to $1,790 USD.
But if you do not want to spend that money and still get a high performance CPU, then AMD Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition will be the best choice for you with $298 USD.
