With the first beta version of Internet Explorer 8 Microsoft has taken the first important step for increasing the stability of Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft has planned for the second beta version IE8 in August 2008 and the Developers will be able to download IE8 and test it for the final version which is coming soon in this year. With publishing different beta versions of Internet Explorer 8, Microsoft wants to be sure that the browser is working properly.
Microsoft has made modifications in the Beta 1 under the name "Loosely Coupled IE" which is a modularization of the various surface elements. This new features will prevent the entire browser from crashes.
Microsoft has planned to integrate this important feature into the Beta 2 version of Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft has published the first detailed information about the new features in the beta version of IE8.
I decided to assume all information and publish it in one article that everyone can read about the new cool features in Internet Explorer 8.
Framework, Tabs and Processes
Internet Explorer 8 won’t use multiple processes anymore. In the beta 1, Internet Explorer 8 starts with 2 processes for every single browser, one for Tabs and one for Frames. The second beta version of IE8 will start only one process for entire browser (Frames and Tabs). If the user starts a new browser it will be combined with the already started process for the frames.
But is could make a big problem especially for the users who use web applications simultaneously side by side. Microsoft has solved this problem with the parameter "nomerge". This new feature will start processes for each tab. That means that it doesn´t matter how many browser you have open, you will have always only one process for the frames and one process for each tab. If you have problems with one tab, you will be able to close only tab without closing the entire web browser.
Advanced recovery from crashes
Advanced recovery from crashes is another change in IE8 which is called Automatic Crash Recovery function. A new technology called LCIE, Internet Explorer will be able to close only one tab which has problems without shutting down the entire web browser. As results, the tab will be restored.
It is a very cool feature because you do not have to login again into your webmail, forum, and etc. after your tab crashes or your web browser closes. With the advanced recovery from crashes, your visited websites will be recovered and opened again in the same page where you have ended before.
Overall, Microsoft is very confident about the stability and reliability of the Internet Explorer 8. I am very excited to download Internet Explorer 8 and see, if Microsoft has done what they promised.
