In July 2000, The Company founder Bill Gates promises what the "Blackcomb" changes are expected. It will be the most substantial shift so far in the user interface, Windows has ever seen, he said during the Microsoft developer conference PDC. In addition, the operating system would be in a position to the actions of the user to predict and automatically terminate. So if the user enters a sentence, should "Blackcomb" recognize the user.
The beginnings
Bill Gates promised that Microsoft will develop 64-bit system in perfection with Windows "Blackcomb". And now after 8 years, users are running Windows Vista with 32-bit version because Vista 64-bit has still problems with software and hardware. The most reason is the other software and hardware producer because they are still not ready for 64-bit edition of Windows.
Since 2000, it made a lot happen after Bill gate announcement about Windows "Blackcomb". Meanwhile Microsoft itself had to admit that its own very ambitious goals will never happen in the time schedule. Windows had decided to move Windows "Blackcomb" to Windows XP and after that a new development for Windows Vista. Is Microsoft really ready for Windows "Blackcomb" what Bill Gates has promised 8 years ago to make a new user interface?
Longhorn
In 2001, Microsoft started a new Windows with the code name Longhorn, which after many hurdles is at the market as Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. Even for Vista Microsoft had initially made a lot, including the introduction of a new file system. After several years of "Longhorn" development, Microsoft had to recognize that the desired objectives and new functions in the proposed cannot be done in the time frame.
In 2004 Microsoft had to stop longhorn´s development and they created Windows Server 2003, which is the basis of Windows Vista. Vista compared to Windows XP is by a wider range of functional improvements, much more improved security and a new user interface called "Aero Glass" with its transparent windows and effects.
While Windows Vista stand also with all its problems in advantages, compared to Windows XP, Vista could has done something good for Windows "Blackcomb". In 2006, the internal code name of the product changed to "Vienna", and it was long but also the only one which came to the public from Microsoft's headquarters. Long time, it was because of the embarrassing and problems in the development of Windows Vista and "Longhorn". But Microsoft speaks again after one to two years officially, and mostly unofficially - about his plans for the new Windows with the code name Windows 7.
As mentioned, Microsoft has planned a number of highly targets for Windows "7". Among other things, Windows 7 is coming with a new revolutionary file system and it won´t have hitherto known user interface with the start menu and task bar.
Meanwhile, the competition is growing in the operation systems. There are many free operation systems, which work much better than Microsoft Windows and the most important competitor is specially Apple’s Man OS X. Therefore Microsoft has to realize all new features in Windows 7 to keep up with Mac OS X.
In January 2007, an internal Microsoft presentation informed the public about the new features in Windows 7. It figures out what really Microsoft going to reach with Windows 7.
The most important and main objectives for Windows 7
The main objectives are the optimization of using the information, increasing mobility of information and a higher security with a low cost for business clients. Specially searching in internet, local and in the network has to be combined and easier to use. Even the exchange of data and files has to be much easier between different computers and networks.
In addition, the access of data has to be easier for all kinds of different devices than before. It should not matter where the user is located. To this approach, it includes the introduction of new functions for the cooperation of users. In addition, Microsoft plans to provide wireless connectivity, as well as their management and security functions. Microsoft is focusing on the mobile devices with Windows 7. Therefore Microsoft is trying to introduce the mobile device companies and developers for optimizing their products.
In the security for Windows users has to be done something. Microsoft wants to expand the security features, which they already started with Windows Vista. The security features in Windows Vista have to be developed for Windows 7. The administration of user accounts will be more expanded and more improved for Windows 7.
Microsoft is planning with Windows 7 for a virtual machine monitoring system, which directly can be run on the hardware of the computer and it can control and monitor the distribution of resources. But it is still too early to say anything about it. Within the next few months it should be withdrawn from Microsoft's headquarters to get more information about it.
In the next part of my article I am going to let you know what Microsoft really is going to realize the new promised features in Windows 7.
