In my last published articles I was trying to show you how Windows operation systems and especially Windows Vista 64-bit are secure. I wrote about the benefits and disadvantages of Windows Vista and Apple Leopard. Fortunately there are developers and researchers who are looking for bugs and security problems in Windows Vista and Apple. The question is: Is a Microsoft PC more secure than Apple computers?
Apple has been advertizing for years with a whole series of TV commercials, in which it compares its own products with classic Windows PC. These TV ads work well with Windows Vista because of the lack of security that Windows operation systems have in general.
After the security conference Black Hat, the researchers published that Apple still has the same problem too. Researchers at the ETH Zurich study how often Microsoft and Apple in the last six years have been able to patch the latest reported bugs and security issues in their available products quickly.
The researchers analyzed 658 vulnerabilities, bugs, and security issues related to Microsoft products and 738 for Apple related products especially for Mac OS. They had two different categories for issues “high or medium risks”. The researchers noted in their analysis that Apple fix the bugs much later than Microsoft do to protect their client in internet against hackers and viruses.
After years of analysis and examinations the update centers of Microsoft and Apple, the researchers came to a very interesting result. Apple always has more open reported high security bugs than Microsoft. Microsoft is working harder to close the open doors to the internet.
The reason for having more high open security bugs could be multifaceted. One of the most reasons is that Apple has started very late to have closer working with security experts. Otherwise the researchers believe that Apple was less used than Microsoft around the world and Apple didn´t get such attention than Microsoft has been getting it in last few years. Even it is precisely the lack of contacts with security specialists is a disadvantage for Apple security updates.
After all they believe that Apple computer users could get more and more high security issues in the next few years because every day are more people changing to Man OS from Microsoft PCs.
It is recommended to be always up-to-date either you are Microsoft or Apple user. I reported in my last article that you can get more security and reliability after you install service pack 1 for Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit and 32-bit. Windows 64-bit is the future and we must be prepared for that because Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit brings more security for you in internet and networks.
