You have written an article on a popular subject, yet it is worth nothing as no one knows about it! You can publish it on your blog or website, but this still doesn’t really get it noticed, this is where Article Marketing comes into play.

Article marketing in its simplest form is a way of an author to get additional sales or traffic. The author writes short targeted articles on the subject area or specialty they wish to promote and makes these available freely for promotion or placement in magazines, newspapers and on the internet. These will include some sort of contact information for the business, thus getting a large readership knowing about the company, which can increase the company’s reputability.

For example a bank may provide an article titled “Tips to stay safe with online banking” or a builder provide information on “How to avoid ice damage this winter”, this of course would only work shortly before the winter period.

With the rise of the internet and ecommerce article marketing has changed slightly. Instead of simply making the articles freely available, techniques such as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) are commonly used.

SEO is way of optimizing the content to include many keywords related to the chosen speciality. A common way the article marketers use SEO is to try and obtain as many “back links” as possible; the more links to a particular page you have the higher it is ranked by the search engine. Therefore the company information that goes along with the freely distributable articles should yield lots of links to the company’s website.

Some tips for article marketing:

-Include a link back to your site.

-Include your company name and area of expertise.

-Keep the article targeted.
