Microsoft has finally made it. As Microsoft in the past has published service packs for Windows operation systems, there were often huge problems, because of a large number of users, the update collection was not easy to install without difficult installation issues. But it seems with Windows Vista SP1, that Microsoft has finally made a good Service Pack for Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit.

But it is doesn´t mean that SP1 for Vista is perfection. There are still problems but they are very limited, even if some users complain about their big problems with Windows Vista service pack 1 (Vista SP1). Their issues are reported by Microsoft and most of them have problems with their drivers after they installed service pack for Windows Vista. They say that their drivers do not work anymore after service pack 1 installation.

Microsoft is talking about the best service pack ever. Maybe there are fewer problems than in the past. In comparison to the first service pack for Windows XP, SP1 for Windows Vista is a good update but we cannot call it perfection.

Microsoft has recently adopted a list of possible problems with the installation of Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista. This includes that some drivers will be locked after installation. It could be possible that SP1 for Vista uninstall some drivers, but the users will be able to install it again. I recommend you should have your drivers ready, that you can reinstall them after the installation of the SP1 for Windows Vista, if it is necessary.

Realtek and other sound devices are the most hardware with problems after installation of the SP1 for Windows Vista. But still the users could install the older driver. In some cases you cannot install service pack 1 for Vista if you have older drivers for Creative Audigy.

Some users argue that Microsoft has published no information about potentially problematic drivers on the current system after SP1 installation.

All patches from Microsoft are making problems. The idea was making some patches to prepare Windows Vista for SP1 that the users do not get any problems but unfortunately it did not work very well. Microsoft had published a few weeks ago a patch of Vista what should prepare for the SP1. This ensured, however, that some systems constantly re-started, because the patches could not be completely installed.

Other users report a failure of the installation of SP1, because they have installed voice packets, which are not yet supported, even before Microsoft had warned in advance.

So far, service pack 1 for Vista is only in English, French, Japanese, Spanish and German. And other language users have to wait. (It could be that Microsoft doesn´t have enough translators and maybe we can help Bill Gates employees.)

All SP1 beta testers have problems because the final version makes problems with the beta version. You should be happy if you didn´t install any beta version of service pack 1 for Windows Vista. But if you are going to install SP1 for Vista, you should uninstall the beta version of SP1, if you have installed it already, which is not always perfectly possible. In addition, there are also a number of small errors and problems that Microsoft doesn´t know yet.

There are some limited problems with DVD drives such as crashes and losing speed by reading and writing files on DVDs.

Now the question is, should I or I shouldn´t install service pack 1 for Windows Vista 64-bit and Vista 32-bit?

For private users, who is not sure if he/she can make it after many problems with drivers, hardware, then they should not install SP1 for Vista. I recommend the private users should wait till April that the automatic update for SP1 is published by Microsoft. At that time I can imagine that the driver problem will be solved by Microsoft and all hardware and software producers.
