The most asked question is, should I install Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows 32-bit when I know that my processor would work with both systems. And the second question is if it is good to run Vista x64 (64 bit) when usually everyone has Vista 32-bit running on his computer.
There are few things you should now before you decide to install Vista 64-bit:
1- There are still some application written in 16-bit and Windows Vista 64 bit is not compatible with 16-bit software. I can say this issue is not so important because there are not so many applications in 16-bit extension.
2- If you have an older hardware and device like printer, scanner, webcam and etc. you should be sure if you can find the 64-bit drivers for your devices because Microsoft Windows Vista x86 is incompatible with 32-bit drivers.
3- It could be possible that some of 32-bit application do not run under Windows Vista 64-bit. If you are using an older version of Nero, Norton, MacAfee, iTunes, and etc. then you should research in internet if your versions of your applications are compatible with Vista 64-bit.
4- It is recommended to find out if your drivers are signed kernel-mode or unsigned kernel-mode. Because Vista 64-bit doesn´t support unsigned kernel-mode.
I we could fix all incompatibility problems with Vista 64-bit then we could say, Vista x64 is the best operation system ever. Vista 64-bit is exactly the same product like Vista x86, but Vista 64-bit is written 64-bit extension.
64-bit extension in Vista 64-bit has few positive sides:
1- Vista 64-bit brings you more performance and security.
2- You can install more than 4 GB memory. But it is very important to know if your Motherboard supports more than 4 GB RAM.
3- Vista x64 brings more reliability
4- Windows Vista 64-bit is more stable than any other operation system
5- Windows BitLocker works much better under 64-bit than 32-bit
6- DEP Data Execution Prevention
7- Brings more performance for serious CAD and CAM Workstation. That means if you are an AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, Revit user, then you are welcome to Vista 64-bit, because you can finish you drawings and animations %30 faster than before.
8- Vista 64-bit is the best solution for serious gamer
After all you can decide if Vista 64-bit is a perfect solution for you and your application. If you are sure I would say, don´t wait and upgrade to Vista 64-bit because it the best and most secure operation system ever.

My old computer just blew up, I bought a HP media
center with Vista premium 64 bit. My samsung printer (SCX 4521f) wont
install ,despite the updated driver from the Samsung website. I get a
"kernel mode print driver" error. After days on the phone and the
internet, I find no solution. Any advice or solutions? Must I downgrade
to 32 bit Vista? Will that help? Please, I'm losing my mind over this!
I've tried the bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS and rebooting, but when I try installing it, I get the same error message.

Dear Michael,
In Windows Vista 64-bit, installation of kernel-mode drivers is blocked by default. You can allow kernel-mode drivers to be installed every time or just temporary.
Try this one and please let me know if it worked for you:
To allow the installation of kernel-mode printer drivers
1. Log in to Windows Vista 64-bit as an Administrator 2. Open Group Policy Object Editor 3. Under Local Computer Policy, double-click Computer Configuration.
4. Double-click Administrative Templates, and then double-click Printers.
5. Right-click Disallow installation of printers using kernel mode drivers, and then click properties.
6. On the Setting tab, click Disabled, and then click OK.
It should work but if it won´t please tell me and we can try something else.
I very appreciate you for contacting me.

Dear Michael,
I have an easier way for that. I tried it right now and it works.
1- click on start
2- in the search car type cmd
3- do not click either on search or on your Enter
4- you can see on top of your start menu prompts the icon for MS-dos modus
5- move your mouse over it and then a right click
6- click on "Run as administrator"
7- when your MS-DOS window opens, type bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
8- restart your computer and after that you will be able to install your driver
Could you please add you question as a comment in the article which you read before at Article Inspector? I appreciate it.
Let me know if it worked for you please.

Well, your driver is not the one I was trying. Your driver DID install, so thanks for that. But now I have a new problem.Windows gets in on the act and says it has to download a driver. And when I click to allow this, the installation fails and I get a "There is a policy on your computer that blocvks the installkation of NT 4.0 drivers" or something.

Dear Mike,
This problem occurs because Windows Vista does not support the installation of kernel mode printer drivers. Windows Vista only supports the installation of user mode printer drivers. All those methods I just sent to you, they have worked before the last Update of Vista 64-bit. Microsoft has recommended for not using such drivers and people still are using it because the hardware and software manufacturers are still developing such drivers.
Microsoft has blocked these tricks, which we already tried with KB932596 and KB938979.
To uninstall KB932596 and KB938979:
1-start
2-right click on computer and then properties
3-windows update
4-view update history
5-find those updates and uninstall them
I would say give a last try and uninstall your KB932596 and KB938979 on your computer. After you uninstall these two updates, restart your PC and try our second solution to see if it works that way.
I know it is always hard to fix a Windows Operation system but we can always try to find out, what is the problem.
If it does not work again then work around this behavior, try to obtain and install a user mode printer driver on Windows Vista 64-bit based on NT 4.0 system.
Please let me know if our last chance worked or not.
I am looking for a user mode printer driver and I will come back to you if I find one for your printer.

Amir, you';ve been awesome. However, I realize that the probloem is just Vista 64 bit sucks. My wife's l;aptop has the 32 bit Vista and the printer and my palm pilot work just fine with it. So I'm just going to downgrade to XP or 32 bit Vista. And in 2009, the next version of Windows will be out, so then I can buy all new crap. I hate Microsoft.
Thanks. You were more helpful than Samsung, HP, Best Buy and Microsoft combined.

The biggest problem of Windows Vista 64-bit is the hardware compatibility. I can understand you that you want to go back to XP or Vista 32-bit. I hope that Microsoft will sometimes understand which features are really important for Windows Users and try to develop an operation system, which works for everyone. I am sorry; I could not give you what you were looking for.
